George Sexton Associates provided lighting design services to all galleries and public spaces for this new museum and developed an exterior lighting scheme to give the museum its night time identity. One of the design challenges inherent in this project was to design a lighting system that did not disturb the rhythmic view and experience of space within the gallery, while providing the necessary flexibility that a temporary exhibition space requires. The design team also developed strategies to harness and control daylight that penetrates through the skeleton of the addition to animate the architecture and art within. The exterior lighting design provides strong animation to the structural and sculptural lines of the building while affixing this new landmark into the image of the city and those who happen upon it.
